US Trail Running Conference to Build Community and Culture with ATRA-provided Scholarships

Six race directors will receive support to attend industry-leading event

The American Trail Running Association (ATRA) has announced the creation of the Better Together Scholarship to help under-funded and aspiring race directors to attend the 2024 US Trail Running Conference. The 2024 Conference takes place in Knoxville, TN, October 23-25, and is presented by Marathon Printing, Inc.

The American Trail Running Association was formed in 1996 to serve the mountain, ultra and trail (MUT) running community. Their mission is to represent and promote mountain, ultra & trail running.

The Better Together scholarship will provide six new or aspiring race directors funding to cover their travel and accommodation expenses up to a maximum of $1500 per recipient to attend the US Trail Running Conference. Registration costs for these six race directors will be covered by the Conference organizers. Applications open on February 14 and will close on April 1. The winning applicants will be chosen by a selection committee and announced by April 15, 2024.

Nancy Hobbs, ATRA executive director said, “Our board enthusiastically supported the creation of the 2024 Better Together scholarships. This is just one way ATRA can make a difference in our sport by offering opportunities for growth and engagement in the race directing community.”

US Trail Running Conference director Terry Chiplin said, “I am thrilled that ATRA have decided to create this incredible funding resource to help six race directors who would otherwise not have been able to attend this year’s Conference. This generous scholarship will help attract race directors or event organizers and give them the tools to start or accelerate their businesses. I applaud ATRA for taking this innovative approach.”
